In accordance with the March 2017 Notice of Intrusive Activity (NOIA), the installation of new perimeter fencing around the Site was performed in May 2017. The work consisted of the clearing of vegetation (leaving roots intact), removing designated existing fences and gates, modifying the remaining existing fence, and installing new fences and gates. The work was performed on the Site as well as the adjacent property to the east located at 212 West Main Street. The new work included the removal of the existing fencing currently separating the two properties (cutting posts at grade) to form one site to facilitate the future implementation of the remedy. The new fence and gates also improved the existing perimeter fencing to secure the Site. A letter report summarizing the work was submitted to the NYSDEC on June 28, 2017. A copy of that report has been added to the Key Document section of this website.

Based on the results of a multi-phase investigation conducted on the off-site, adjacent property located at 212 West Main Street (Off-Site Property), National Grid petitioned the NYSDEC to change the main component of the remediation of the off-site property from excavation/off-site disposal to in situ solidification (ISS). ISS is the main remedial component being conducted on the Site. The NYSDEC agreed with these concerns and issued an Explanation of Significant Difference (ESD) in October 2017. A copy of the ESD has been added to the Key Documents section of this website.

National Grid submitted a Notice of Intrusive Activity (NOIA) to the NYSDEC on May 22, 2018. The NOIA is associated the removal of a former gas manifold and associated subsurface piping. The work will be performed on the Site and, potentially, the adjacent property to the east located at 212 West Main Street. The work includes the removal of the former gas manifold, associated subsurface piping as well as any other former utilities encountered during the work. The activities are being performed to facilitate implementation of the remedy by removing former utilities in the area subject to active remediation. The work is scheduled to begin on September 17, 2018 and is anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete.

National Grid continues to monitor groundwater at the Site on a semi-annual basis. The first-half 2017 semi-annual groundwater monitoring activities were conducted in June 2017; the second-half 2017 in December 2017. Reports summarizing the results of these monitoring events were submitted to the NYSDEC on August 23, 2017 and March 2, 2018, respectively. These reports have been added to the Key Documents area contained on this website. The first-half 2018 monitoring was conducted in June 2018. The summary report is currently under preparation. The second-half 2018 activities are scheduled to occur in December 2018.

National Grid submitted the 95% Remedial Design Report (RDR) for the Site to the NYSDEC on February 12, 2018. The NYSDEC is currently reviewing the document. Comments are anticipated to be received third quarter of 2018. Using the 95% RDR, National Grid has begun the process of procuring a Construction Manager and a Remediation Contractor to implement the remedy for Site. Once these entities have been procured, the remedial design will be finalized and the 100% RDR will be submitted to the NYSDEC. Upon approval, the National Grid will mobilize its Team to the Site to implement the remedy. Remedial construction is anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2019.
